It has been glued on to a piece of paper. From the front it appears to be a nice original Flatwire officer trapezoid. To see the construction of the rear would positively confirm this.

flat wire was used by nco's and officers both. if you want to remove the paper try
soaking in water over several hours it should soften the paper.

The hat is not made of RH moleskin, it is lighter weight material like a shelter quarter etc.

Oh OK...looks similar, the needle puncture holes indicate to me that it is a hardwearing stiffer than normal fabric...
but if you say it isn't... OK...Anyway superb cap for sure!

It is kind of a lightweight cotton duck/canvas material.
